About FVC
The Farmington Valley Chorus (FVC) is a group of 50 women of diverse ages, backgrounds, and professions who sing a cappella four-part harmony in the barbershop style. Chorus members come from across Connecticut, with the heaviest concentration living in Hartford and Litchfield counties. See the towns where our members reside!
Based
in Simsbury, CT, and directed by Cheryl Wilcox,
FVC is one of more than 600 chapters worldwide of Sweet
Adelines International, an educational nonprofit organization of women
singers. The group's mission is to advance the musical art form of barbershop
harmony through education and performance, a mission that FVC has lived
for over 30 years.
Performing regularly
throughout Connecticut and western Massachusetts, the Farmington Valley
Chorus has entertained audiences at public libraries, church halls, fairs,
senior centers, community organizations, private events and more with
its lively mix of choreographed music. It also presents 
an
annual show which, for the past three years, has been supported in part
by a Neighborhood Arts and Heritage Grant through the Greater
Hartford Arts Council, as well as through individual donations and
ads purchased in the show program by community businesses.
A regular
competitor in Sweet Adelines contests, in May 2006 FVC won the midsize
chorus competition in Region 1 and placed 2nd overall among the choruses
from throughout New England, Eastern Canada, and part of New York State.
As a result, FVC was invited to compete in Sweet Adelines' Harmony
Classic International Competition in San Antonio, TX in July, 2007.
The chorus was overjoyed to come home with an International silver medal
for its second-place finish!
Membership in the Farmington Valley Chorus is open to all women, age 14 and up, who pass an audition. The chorus rehearses year-round on Wednesday nights from 7:30-10 pm at Palmer Hall, First Church of Christ in Simsbury, CT. We'd love for you to visit our rehearsal!
