FVC in the NewsOur most recent press releases: A Cappella Harmony Singers Wanted SIMSBURY, CT, May 5, 2008 - The Farmington Valley Chorus of Sweet Adelines International is seeking women to sing four-part, a cappella harmony in the barbershop style. Women of all ages are invited to attend a chorus rehearsal on Wednesday, June 4 or July 9, from 7:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Palmer Hall, First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT, 06070. After a brief voice placement with the chorus' Music Director, guests will join chorus members on the risers and experience firsthand the music, friendship and fun for which the Farmington Valley Chorus is known. FVC has been entertaining audiences for over thirty years, presenting choreographed performances of a cappella music, including ballads, up-tunes, Broadway show hits, holiday music and singing valentines. The chorus recently placed first in Sweet Adelines' Regional Competition for mid-sized choruses at Symphony Hall in Springfield, MA on May 3rd. Members range in age from twenties to eighties and include students, mothers, professional women and retirees from throughout the Greater Hartford area and beyond. Farmington Valley Chorus Receives Grant for its Annual Show
SIMSBURY, CT, August 30, 2007 - The Farmington Valley Chorus of Sweet Adelines International has been selected by the Greater Hartford Arts Council to receive a Neighborhood Arts & Heritage Grant in support of its upcoming annual show, Anything Goes!. The $750 grant, made possible jointly through contributors to the United Arts Campaign and the United Way Community Campaign, will help fund the events entertainment which is intended to showcase the American folk art form of barbershop singing. Joining FVC in the mid-November show will be the championship mens barbershop quartet, RING! The show will be held at Wethersfield High School on Saturday, November 17th, 7:30 p.m. Watch FVCs website, www.SingFVC.org, for emerging details.

Chorus From Simsbury, CT Places 2nd at Tulsa, Okla., July 19, 2007 - The Farmington Valley Chorus, of Sweet Adelines International, took second place at the Harmony Classic Division AA Competition held on July 14, 2007, in San Antonio, Texas. Forty-eight of the 50-member chorus performed on stage and wowed the judges and audience with their creative and musical 15-minute entertainment package. The Farmington Valley Chorus of Simsbury, Connecticut, led by their director, Cheryl Wilcox, was one of five mid-sized choruses world-wide invited to compete in the international contest. This year's qualifying competitors were champions from the Sweet Adelines International 2006 Regional Competition, including choruses from Canada, New Zealand and the U.S. With the many hours they spend together singing and rehearsing, the Farmington Valley Chorus members have developed an extended family of loving friendships between women ranging in ages from 22 to 80. Although their second place honor is a result of long hours and hard work, this chorus takes every opportunity to laugh, enjoy each other's company and celebrate their passion for singing together. There are two mother
and daughter teams as well as a daughter, mother and grandmother combination
among the membership. The Farmington Valley Chorus performs regularly
throughout Connecticut and western Massachusetts, bringing its lively
mix of music to public libraries, church halls, fairs, senior centers,
community organizations and private events.
